Privacy Policy

Effective October 20, 2026. The short version: we collect very little, we don't sell it, and we don't track you for ads.

Who we are

CommsStack (commsstack.io) is an independent directory of internal communications software, run by the CommsStack team. "We" and "us" in this policy mean CommsStack. Questions about privacy go to hello@commsstack.io.

What we collect

  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to the CommsStack Brief, we collect your email address, the page you signed up from, and the time you signed up and confirmed. Our newsletter provider may also record basic delivery and engagement data (for example, whether an email was delivered or opened, or a link was clicked). We use it to send the newsletter and to see how it performs.
  • Emails you send us. If you email us, or use the claim, correction or advertising buttons (they open a prefilled email in your own email app), we receive whatever you include, such as your name, work email, company and message. We use it to reply, to correct listings, and to handle sponsorship requests.
  • Aggregate site analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. It counts page views and records things like the page, referring site, country and browser type in aggregate. It does not use cookies or local storage, and it does not build a profile of you or track you across other sites.
  • Server logs. Our hosting and security provider processes standard request data (such as IP address and user agent) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

We don't ask for or knowingly collect sensitive personal data, and the site isn't directed at children.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell, rent or trade personal data.
  • We don't use advertising cookies, ad pixels or cross-site tracking. The site sets no tracking cookies.
  • We don't share subscriber lists with vendors or sponsors. Sponsors only see aggregate numbers, such as subscriber count and open rate.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run CommsStack. They process data on our behalf and only to provide their service:

  • Cloudflare: website hosting (Cloudflare Pages), security, cookieless analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) and email forwarding for our @commsstack.io addresses (Cloudflare Email Routing).
  • Buttondown: newsletter sign-up, storage of subscriber emails and newsletter delivery.
  • Resend: delivery of emails we send from @commsstack.io addresses, such as replies.
  • Our team mailbox provider, which stores emails sent to us.
  • LinkedIn: hosts our company page (see below).

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.

LinkedIn page integration

We publish posts to our own CommsStack company page on LinkedIn, either by hand or through our own small publishing tool that uses LinkedIn's official API. That tool:

  • posts only to the CommsStack company page, and to no other page or profile;
  • stores only the access token LinkedIn issues to us for that purpose (and its refresh token), kept privately and never shared;
  • doesn't collect, store or analyse LinkedIn members' profile data, connections, comments or messages.

If you follow, comment on or react to our LinkedIn page, LinkedIn processes that under LinkedIn's privacy policy.

How long we keep data

  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Every issue has an unsubscribe link. After you unsubscribe we may keep a record of your address on a suppression list so we don't email you again.
  • Emails: as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of listing changes and business correspondence.
  • Analytics: aggregate only, kept by Cloudflare under its own retention limits.
  • LinkedIn token: until it expires or we revoke it.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link in any issue. You can also ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, correct it or delete it. Email hello@commsstack.io and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the effective date. Contact: hello@commsstack.io (privacy and general) or sponsors@commsstack.io (advertising).

Effective October 20, 2026. The CommsStack team.
